Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups low-sodium turkey broth
  • 0.5 tsp kosher salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, whisking constantly, until smooth and pale golden.
  3. Gradually whisk in the turkey broth until smooth.
  4. Bring the gravy to a simmer over medium heat.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 5 to 8 minutes, whisking often, until the gravy thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  6. Stir in the salt and pepper.
  7. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.

Notes

Whisk the broth in gradually to help keep the gravy smooth. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 4 days or freeze them; thaw and reheat gently, whisking until smooth. For a dairy-free option, use plant-based butter.
